Quit overthinking. Do that shit.

I’ve always always always loved to sing. I sing everywhere, but never for other people. Even when I gain the confidence to do some karaoke, I choose a song that I don’t actually have to hit the notes on, just something that everyone knows and can vibe to.

But I’ve always had this dream of being able to sing in front of people, Miley Cyrus style. Showing my personality through the songs, raspy low vibes, enjoying the time & entertaining people with my voice.

After 25 years of yearning for this experience, I’ve finally entered my campfire popstar era. There’s a super cool bar here that does jam sessions after the sun goes down. On a shroom trip, I was chilling by the fire having a good time, singing my heart out when the guitar man said I should sit closer to him to hear better.

I’ve now sung at this jam session more than a few times. Every time I’m asked to sing, I blush a little bit. After, I leave feeling so amazing. So creatively expressed and fulfilled.

When someone tells me I have a nice voice or they enjoyed the songs, it gives me butterflies. It feels like a dream. Not only to sing in front of people but for them to enjoy it? For them to ask me to sing more? It truly doesn’t get better than that.

It’s scary putting myself out there like this. There is something extremely vulnerable about singing in front of people. But you know what’s scarier? Yearning my whole life for an experience within my grasp and never actually doing it. Of course I’ve said the wrong lyrics, and yes my pitch has been off a time or two, but who cares? This isn’t American Idol.

So do the scary thing. Embarrass yourself. Maybe your dreams are on the other side.
