I pick up these books when I want:

An intellectually stimulating escape from reality that brings thoughts on society, technology, and human potential.

1984

Big Brother is always watching A timeless story of a totalitarian government with an omnipresent leader. Winston struggles with questions he shouldn't have while experiencing feelings that are forbidden. 10/10 Does this book have any parallels to reality? You tell me.

Anthem

Less than 100 pages You can read this glance into a collectivist society in a few hours. Individuality is nonexistent, and the discovery of anything is forbidden. 8/10

The 22 Murders of Madison May

If thriller and sci-fi had a baby It would be this book. A look into the multiverse while conducting a murder investigation that keeps recurring. 8/10

The Ballad of
Songbirds and Snakes

A truly amazing prequel Taking place during President Snow's adolescence, this book will give you a ton of mixed emotions. Do I really feel empathy for him? 10/10 Questions of moral compromise, friendship, love, and power. And the movie did a good job capturing these.

The Hunger Games

A pop-culture dystopian read Such a great introduction to the sci-fi genre, and an easy read. Of course, gives much more detail and emotion than the movies could ever. 8/10 If you can see clearly who the bad guys are here, can you also find them in our reality?

Dune

Not just a movie with Timothée Chalamet. I struggled at first to get into this book, the language is very abstract as well as the story line. However, I thank myself for sticking through. Truly a great read, diving into a complex world of the future. Tragedy and prophecies mix with the very relevant theme of accepting and growing with differences. 10/10 This is only the first of a 6 book series, not including the other 20 in the same universe.

Sunrise on the Reaping

Another Hunger Games book? Keep em coming. We get the inside view of Haymitch's adolescence. What demons could he possibly have from winning the 50th Hunger Games against 47 other tributes? 10/10 Amazing.
