Maybe I’m Wrong

You know what solves most of the problems we have with each other? Honest and open communication. You know what most people avoid? Honest and open communication.

Why is this? Maybe it’s just easier to assume people’s intentions. Maybe we are too uncomfortable to have the conversations we need to understand better. Maybe we like making other people out to be the villain. The villain we create allows us to avoid the vulnerability of asking for the truth.

I absolutely know how critical it is to have real conversations with people, especially the people whose relationships I value. Does this mean that I initiate these when they are needed? Nope. I still avoid finding the truth before I assume people have bad intentions. Especially when it comes to a man. Instead of talking honestly, I get hurt and convince myself I should just move on, proving to myself that I need no one. Oops. Shit happens.

The important thing is to recognize when this happens and try to choose differently next time. I’m just a human. A human trying my best to maintain good relationships. Trying not to take things personally when I get my feelings hurt. And trying, everyday, to ask for the truth instead of creating my own.
